Elder and Sister David & Patti Redd - received their call March 24 to serve in the Republic of Congo Brazzaville Mission beginning April 12. Jean-Luc Magre and his wife Beatrice currently preside over that mission. The story of the "Connection" between Dave Redd and Jean Luc Magre is fascinating. Dave served in the France Paris Mission 1970-72 and while serving in St. Nazaire taught the Magre family. Jean-Luc's parents were baptized first. Gary Groendyke and Dave were present.
"Jean-Luc's brother was street contacted by Elder Cameron and Elder Hugh Sillito. The brother invited the missionaries over. The family became fast friends with the missionaries and were long time investigators and attended services as though they were branch members - though unbaptized. By the time Dave got to St. Nazaire, Elder Steve Myers and he were probably the fifth or sixth team of missionaries to visit them on a regular basis. Jean-Luc's mother (Renee - a saint in her own right according to Dave) made great crepes for the missionaries and there was always a warm and welcoming spirit in the house. The rest of the family was baptized later, after Dave left St. Nazaire. Jean-Luc was baptized in the ocean in the summer of 1971. At the fireside last Friday evening, the Redds were present to listen to the Magre's presentation. They will now work closely with President and Sister Magre in the office. Dave and Patti have previously served in the France Paris Mission with President and Sister Babin. The Redds were in Liège Belgium at the same time the daughter of President and Sister Hansen (who were also featured in the fireside Friday evening) was serving as a full-time missionary in Liège. Small world, but wonderful connections brought about by the Gospel." David Redd
