Nous avons ete visites le memorial de Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza qui a ete inaugure le 3 Octobre 2006.  Il se trouve en plein centre ville pres de la mairie.

 

Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza de son vrai nom Pietro Paolo Savorgnan di Brazzà (Castel Gandolfo, 26 janvier 1852 - 14 septembre 1905, Dakar) est un officier de marine et explorateur italien, ayant opté pour la nationalité française. Il fut l'un des premiers explorateurs à arriver en Afrique centrale.

 

De 1879 à 1882,Pierre Savorgnan de  Brazza remonte une deuxieme fois le fleuve l'Ogooué et fonde Franceville au passage. Il descend jusqu'en République du Congo où il rencontre le roi Makoko Iloy Ier à M'bey et signe avec lui notamment le 10 septembre 1880 un accord qui permet à la France de s'établir sur la rive droite du fleuve Congo. Il installe le 3 octobre 1880 le poste de M'Foa devenu aujourd'hui Brazzaville la capitale du Congo qu'il laisse à la garde du sergent Malamine et revient vers la côte.

 

En novembre 1882, Brazza repart en France. Le gouvernement lui accorde une troisième expédition par laquelle il devient commissaire général du Congo français en novembre 1885. Il joue également un rôle important dans la création de l'Afrique-Équatoriale française.

We visited the Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza memorial which was inaugurated on October 3, 2006. It is located in the city center near the town hall.

 

Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza whose real name is Pietro Paolo Savorgnan di Brazzà (Castel Gandolfo, January 26, 1852 - September 14, 1905, Dakar) is an Italian naval officer and explorer, having opted for French nationality. He was one of the first explorers to arrive in Central Africa.

 

From 1879 to 1882, Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza went up the Ogooué river for the second time and founded Franceville in the process. He went down to the Republic of the Congo where he met King Makoko Iloy I in M'bey and signed with him  on September 10, 1880 an agreement which allowed France to settle on the right bank of the Congo River. On October 3, 1880, he set up the M'Foa post, which has become today Brazzaville the capital of the Congo, which he leaves in the care of Sergeant Malamine and returns to the coast.

 

In November 1882, Brazza returned to France. The government granted him a third expedition by which he became Commissioner General of the French Congo in November 1885. He also played an important role in the creation of French Equatorial Africa.
